ANS demo exam

Instruction demo exam for Students 

This is a short student manual for the demo exam in ANS. 
For more instructions see ANS. 

Prepare

You only can log in with your own account. So make sure you have a working password.

Log in to Ans

 The platform Ans is only accessible through a web browser such as Chrome or Edge.

• You can log in to Ans by navigating to: https://ans.app/.
• Click on Sign in at the top right.
• Search for Hanze in the block with 'Login with your school account'.
• You are now on the main Ans page.
If you want to return to it at some point, click on the Ans logo in the top left corner

Take an exam

1.    Click on this link to join the Demo Exam. On the main page beneath Live Assignments, there are exams ready for you to take. Click on Demo exam ENG. Read the introduction of the exam. Have you read it? Then click on Start. The exam will start. Good luck!
2.    Question 1 will appear. At the bottom of your screen, there is an overview of the questions. The blue coloured question is the one you are looking at now.

Navigate through the exam

Ans automatically saves your answers. When you answer a question, the box at the bottom of the screen with the corresponding question number will turn light red. This means that you have answered that question.

If you are not sure of your answer and want to return to the question later, click on the bookmark icon to the right of the question. An indicator will appear in the overview at the bottom of the screen so you can easily return to it.

Navigate to the next question. You do this by clicking on the Arrow on the very bottom right or by clicking on the desired question number.

  1. At the top of your screen, you will see the orange toolbar with a menu on the right. From the toolbar, you can enable or disable certain settings via the settings menu (gear icon), open a calculator or notes field (for yourself) if available, and close the exam.The options displayed depends on the settings of the exam.

Customize the display

You can personalize the learning environment by clicking on the gear icon / Settings at the top right of the taskbar. Here you can select a larger font, set a high contrast mode or indicate whether or not you want to see the remaining time during the exam. You can also choose whether or not you want to be notified when you have only 15 minutes left to complete the exam.  

The demo exam consists of 14 exercises and 8 question types, not all the question types explained below are in the exam.

Read the tips below for completing/answering these question types.

A. Open question. Click on the white space to fill in your answer. A number of tools will appear to help you answer the question. For example, you can add images, enter formulas and format text . When you click out of the white area, you can see what your answer looks like. To edit the answer, click on the white space again. (question 2, 5, 10a).

B. Multiple choice question. Select the bullet next to the correct answer. The selected dot will turn blue. It is possible to cross out false answers. Please do note that this does not answer the question (question 4, 6, 7).

C. Multiple response question. A multiple choice question where multiple answers are correct. Select the squares with the correct answers. The square will turn blue. Here too, you can cross out incorrect answers. (question 11a).

D. Match question. Select the correct boxes. A selected box turns blue (question 1).

E. Order question. Click and drag to rank the answer options in the lower box (question 14).

F. Fill-in question. Click on the white field to give your answer (question 3, 9, 12a/b/c/d).

G. Numerical question. Click in the answer field and enter a number (question 11b, 13).

H. Hotspot. Click and drag a marker to the correct location(s) on the image (question 8).

I. Hotspot match question. Click and drag the markers to the correct locations on the image.

J. Statement. Indicate whether a statement is correct/incorrect by clicking on the bullet. A selected bullet turns blue.

K. File Upload. In this question, you submit a file by clicking the upload button. To replace the file, click the upload button again (question 10b).

L. Mathematical Equation. Click the New Equation button and use the math keyboard to enter an answer. Then click on Save.

M. Code editor. Click in the black code-editor field to enter your script .

N. Worksheet. Click on a cell in the spreadsheet and format your answer. You can use some spreadsheet functionality.

Submit the exam

1. You can close and submit the exam at any time. To close the exam, click on Submit at the top right of your screen. Tick the confirmation box and click on Submit.

When you are on the last question of the exam you can also click on the Exit icon in the bottom right of your screen. Here too, confirmation is required and the Submit button must be pressed.

2. Ans notifies you that you have handed in your exam successfully. The exam has been submitted and saved.

View your result

With this exam, it is possible to view the results of the closed questions immediately after handing in the exam. To do so, click on the tab Result. Because the open questions have not been graded, you will not receive a grade yet. You can see your score per closed question in Exercises. In some cases, the questions, your given answers, the correct answers and the feedback can all be viewed. This depends on the settings of the exam. It is possible to leave your comments here.
