Instructors can create a discussion forum within a course. Here, as a student, you have the opportunity to submit assignments, collaborate, ask questions, and discuss with your fellow students.

To access Discussions, click  Course Tools > Discussions.

Here you can see all the Discussions created by the teacher in this course.

• On the Discussions homepage, you will see an overview of all the forums and related topics created by the instructor for the course.
• Under Subscriptions, you can select how you want to receive notifications (email messages) for discussion forums, topics, and threads you have subscribed to.

In the Discussions List, you will find all forums, topics, and threads created by the instructor or students. Under Posts, you can see how many posts have been made in the respective topic. A blue number in parentheses next to the post count indicates how many posts you have not yet read.

Under Subscriptions, you will see a list of the forums, topics, and threads you have subscribed to in order to receive notifications.

1. Select whether you want to see all your subscriptions (All Subscriptions), or only those of forums (Forum Subscriptions Only), topics (Topic Subscriptions Only), or threads (Thread Subscriptions Only). Click Apply.
2. Under Default Notification Method, select how you want to receive messages by default: in the minibar, directly by email, or in your daily summary of activity.
3. You can also specify how you want to receive notifications for each individual forum, topic, and thread.
4. Click Subscribed to unsubscribe from a forum, topic, or thread. A window will appear asking you to confirm that you no longer wish to follow the forum, topic, or thread.
